THE BEST WATERFALLS IN THE UNITED STATES

Shoshone Falls, Idaho Glen Ellis Falls, New Hampshire Sahalie Falls, Oregon
There are an estimated 15,000-20,000 noteworthy waterfalls in the United States, meaning waterfalls that are large enough and/or distinctive enough to warrant attention. That's obviously a big number, and so the goal of this page is to help guide you to the very best waterfalls in the U.S. The waterfalls that you see described below generally have an established trail to them, and so they typically do not require any bushwhacking or significant off-trail travel. The average person probably isn't going to hike 5 miles off-trail to find a hidden gem in Yellowstone National Park, and so I've purposely excluded most of those types of waterfalls from this list.

Take note that the heights listed below are estimates, and they typically represent the highest single drop (as opposed to the total drop).Waterfalls that are marked with ★★★ represent one of the absolute best waterfalls in the United States (and in many cases would be considered world-class).
